RiverLoop: Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is RiverLoop? RiverLoop will be a new attraction to Downtown Cuyahoga Falls that will include rebuilding the lower boardwalk and adding a new upper “RiverLoop.” RiverLoop will offer beautiful vistas and exciting points of interest and accommodate pedestrians, strollers, wheelchairs, bicycles, and surreys.
  • Why the name RiverLoop? This new upper walkway will connect with Front Street at Broad Boulevard and Oakwood Drive, forming a continuous loop.
  • Why is this needed? The lower boardwalk has outlived its useful life. Its age and harsh climate conditions have necessitated a total replacement. The upper RiverLoop will offer a whole new experience and create beautiful views and points of interest along the river from Broad to Oakwood.
  • What are “points of interest”? There will be many points of interest, consisting of informational plaques describing interesting things to view. Examples are Eagles’ Bluff, Otter Overlook, Prospectors’ Point, Kayakers Cove, Herons’ Crest, The Heart of the Loop, and RiverLoop Stage. 
  • Will it connect with South Front Street? Yes, a new brightly lit underpass beneath the Broad Blvd bridge will allow pedestrians to avoid traversing multiple lanes of traffic on Broad.
  • Will this increase safety? In addition to the underpass beneath the Broad Blvd bridge, other safety enhancements include increased accessibility and updated lighting throughout the area. 
  • When will the project be completed? The majority of the work should be completed by the end of 2025.
  • How much will the project cost? The cost is estimated at $7.1 million.
  • Will the RiverLoop be accessible to everyone? Yes! The RiverLoop is designed to accommodate pedestrians, strollers, and wheelchairs, ensuring it’s accessible to all visitors.
  • Will there be any closures or disruptions during construction? On Riverfront Parkway, there may be temporary lane closures, flaggers, or detours around the construction site. Specific details will be shared ahead of time to minimize disruptions.
  • How long will the RiverLoop be? While the exact length is still being finalized, the RiverLoop will span a significant area, offering a scenic route along the river with multiple points of interest.
  • Will the RiverLoop be free to visit? Yes, the RiverLoop will be open to the public free of charge.
  • Will the RiverLoop be open year-round? Yes, the RiverLoop will be open year-round, though access may be limited during extreme weather events for safety reasons.
  • Will this affect parking for local businesses on Riverfront Parkway? The unimproved vacant lot next to the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center (CVAC) is not in the anticipated project area. As construction progresses in the area, please be aware that access to the lot may be impacted at times. Parking may occasionally be blocked or limited, and getting to the site may be more difficult or unavailable depending on the day. We will do our best to communicate with businesses if parking becomes unavailable. Please note that the lot next to the CVAC is a separate parcel available for purchase and development. 
  • Will bicycles be allowed on the loop? Bicycles will be allowed to use the new upper walkway.
