•    In 1868, Pierre Janssen discovered the chemical element helium during a total solar eclipse.
•    The earliest recorded total solar eclipse in human history occurred in the City of Ugarit in 1223 BC.
•    Throughout history, cultures across the world have both feared and revered solar eclipses.
•    Southern Illinois is considered the solar Eclipse Crossroads of America.

Driving Tips 

•    Do not wear eclipse glasses while driving
•    Keep your headlights on and do not rely on auto headlights
•    Do not stop in the middle of a roadway to view the eclipse or park along the shoulder
•    Pre-plan your route and prepare for traffic congestion before, during, and after the eclipse

Preparation Tips

•    Make sure your vehicle has fuel
•    Stock up on groceries and pick up prescriptions
•    Avoid scheduling appointments on Monday, April 8
•    Prepare for potentially limited cell phone service
