Mayor Don Walters is proud to announce that the City of Cuyahoga Falls has received two awards for reliability and safety in electric service from the American Public Power Association, a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities. The city was awarded a 2016 Certificate of Excellence for Reliable Performance and earned the 2017 Reliable Public Power (RP3) Diamond certification.
“I could not be more proud of our award-winning Electric Department and their continued commitment to safety and delivering top-notch services to our residents and business community,” stated Mayor Don Walters. “These awards are only given to roughly 5 percent of our country’s public power utilities, and it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team in the Electric Department.”
The American Public Power Association (APPA) recently awarded more than 120 public power utilities nationwide certificates of excellence for reliable performance. The organization compared member outage records, as indicated by eReliability Tracker data, against nationwide data gathered by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) for all types of electric utilities. Members that scored in the top 25% of all utilities received the award. The City of Cuyahoga Falls credits its reliability performance to maintenance and upgrades as well as quick response and restoration timeliness during instances of outages.

On Tuesday, May 8, the city earned the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Diamond certification from the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service. The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. The “Diamond” designation is the highest rated category for RP3.
