On Monday, December 12, 2022, Cuyahoga Falls City Council unanimously the City Budget for expenses and capital expenses for the 2023 fiscal year by a vote of 10-0.

“The passage of the 2023 budget by City Council allows my administration to continue to move Cuyahoga Falls forward,” stated Mayor Don Walters. “I commend Finance Committee Chair Mary Nichols-Rhodes for her leadership during the budget review process, Finance Director Bryan Hoffman and his team for their stewardship of our finances, and City Council for their thoughtful consideration and unanimous approval of the budget.”

“I would like to thank City Council for the hard work that they put in during their thorough examination of the budget,” stated Hoffman. “The strength of the city’s financial position is a testament to the great working relationship between the administration and City Council. The money that City Council approved continues the investment into public infrastructure and keeps the city thriving.”

The 2023 budget continues to prioritize infrastructure improvements, with $3 million for asphalt street repairs, $500,000 for concrete street repairs, and $350,000 for joint paving with the City of Akron of West Portage Trail Extension, Akron-Peninsula Road, and Riverview Road. The State, Seasons, and Wyoga Lake intersections will undergo $3.5 million in improvements as part of the 2023 budget. Additionally, $5 million is budgeted for widening and improvements to West Portage Trail Extension from State Road to Albertson Parkway, with $4.5 million coming from federal highway funds. Project highlights include a continuous turn lane, sidewalk installation, multipurpose lane, and new traffic signals. The budget includes continued consistency in the water line replacement schedule, numerous storm water projects, and electric infrastructure upgrades.

The anticipated carryover in the general fund for starting 2023 is $19,919,734. General Fund revenues are forecasted to be around $41,336,838, with General Fund expenses budgeted at $42,460,585. The overall budgeted expenses for all funds in 2023 are $244,469,323.
