On Monday, February 3, 2020, Cuyahoga Falls City Council unanimously voted to confirm Janet Ciotola to serve as the new Director of Law. Ciotola is the city’s first woman to serve as Director of Law and most recently served as Deputy Director of Law. She has been instrumental in the transformation of Downtown Cuyahoga Falls and in the handling of litigation, contracts, and legislation for the city.
“Janet has proved to be one of the hardest working people in City Hall and has an undeniable passion for working to improve the quality of life for our residents,” stated Mayor Don Walters. “Our Law Department will be well-served by her leadership.”
Upon confirmation from City Council, Ciotola thanked Mayor Don Walters for nominating her for the position and City Council for confirmation. “Mayor Walters, thank you for your dynamic vision of the city, and I am thrilled to continue to be a part of this exciting momentum.”
Prior to her employment at the City of Cuyahoga Falls, Ciotola served the City of Akron as the Assistant Director of Law for thirteen years. She is a 1989 graduate of the University of Akron School of Law. She serves as a board member of the Rotary Club of Cuyahoga Falls and is a parishioner and volunteer at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She resides with her family in the City of Cuyahoga Falls.
Ciotola named Matthew Dickinson to serve as Deputy Director of Law. Dickinson has been the city’s Assistant Director of Law since 2014. He graduated from the Ohio State University’s Moritz School of Law in 2003. Before joining the City of Cuyahoga Falls Law Department, he was a Magistrate and Judicial Attorney in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
“Working for the City of Cuyahoga Falls has provided me with many opportunities to work on a wide array of legal issues throughout the city,” stated Dickinson. ”I look forward to continuing to serve with Janet and look forward to finding new and innovative ways to serve our community better.”
