As a benefit of a Public Power Community, the Electric Department started the Light Bulb Giveaway Program in an effort to promote energy efficiency.

The program distributes LED light bulbs to residential customers. These energy efficient light bulbs produce the same amount of light as their incandescent counterparts but cost about a fraction as much to operate. Based on 1095 hours of operation a year (that’s 3 hours/day) and a cost of $0.11 cents/KWH, a 60 watt incandescent bulb would cost $7.22 while a comparable 9 watt LED bulb would cost only $1.08 producing a savings of $6.14/light bulb annually. In addition, the LED bulbs last as much as 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs.

Electric system customers will receive a message in their bill announcing when the light bulb giveaway takes place. Customers may pick-up the light bulbs at either of the below locations during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

  • City Building, 2310 Second Street
  • Electric Service Building, 2550 Bailey Road
