This position is full time, Fair Labor Standards Act exempt, at-will employment; serving at the pleasure of the SARCOG Board of Trustees.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend work hours may be required.

On call 24/7 for emergencies related to the PSAP.

Job Description

Successful applicants will have ample experience leading a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). They will demonstrate consistent leadership with strong interpersonal communications, organizational abilities and customer service to the communities and public safety agencies served.

Under general direction of the SARCOG Board of Trustees, the PSAP director plans and manages all aspects of the PSAP operations, serving more than 125,000 residents and fifteen public safety agencies. This position will manage a support and supervisory staff between seven and ten employees with a staff of forty-five or more telecommunicators.

Position also serves as secretary to the SARCOG Board of Trustees; prepares public notices, agendas, meeting minutes, attends all meetings and prepares an annual report.

Required Qualifications              

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing a multi-jurisdictional PSAP environment; five years or more.
  • LEADS/NCIC certification will be required post-offer, pre-employment.

Preferred Qualification(s)          

  • Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) through the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO).
  • Emergency Number Professional (ENP) through the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).
  • Center Manager Certification Program (CMCP).

Work Environment        

Position is being filled a year before the scheduled PSAP opening to allow the PSAP Director to:

  • Build relationships with staff and agencies to be served.
  • Develop call taking and dispatch protocols with agencies to be served.
  • Develop a training plan for all current telecommunicators.
  • Develop cut over plans
  • Properly test equipment and plans before cut over(s)

During construction of the PSAP, work will be performed from a member community’s office space, to be determined. Work will be performed from the PSAP offices once available.

•Job is physically comfortable. Typically requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, keying, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

•May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
