The City of Cuyahoga Falls is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Electrical Engineer.

Job Objective

Under the general supervision of the Electric Utility Superintendent, is responsible for the application, design, and documentation of electrical equipment and projects in the City of Cuyahoga Falls’ distribution system. Performs various technical and engineering tasks related to the City’s electric substation, transmission, and distribution systems. Works closely with other departments and contractors including the IT Department in planning, developing, implementing, and troubleshooting a wide variety of technical issues and projects. Ensures engineering designs and their applications are compliant with code and standards set forth by the appropriate authoritative bodies. Responsible for project planning, support of field operations, staff management, and implementation of projects within the Electric Department.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with at least a year’s worth of co-op experience or at least 5 years of technical engineering-related experience or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and abilities.  Engineering Intern (“EI” or “EIT”) professional certification preferred. Having all the listed knowledge is a plus.  Must be able to obtain and secure a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of high voltage electrical, hydraulic and physical theory; the use of high voltage tools, materials and equipment methods needed to work in a transmission, distribution and substation system; and being able to identify all types of electrical, physical and hydraulic work hazards. Knowledge of electric utility safety practices and experience leading safety initiatives; applicability of established engineering principles and methods; electrical engineering terminology and techniques; diversified, fundamental, scientific, and engineering concepts; management skills of assigned programs, projects and personnel; regulatory requirements within the local, state and federal laws and ordinances; and City of Cuyahoga Falls budget planning, purchasing, and contract policies and procedures.

Skill in oral and written technical and/or general communication including preparation of written reports; negotiations and obtaining quotes; analyzing complex data from various sources, synthesizing collected information, and developing sound decisions/recommendation; operation of a computer and related software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, engineering powerflow, relaying, and grounding analysis programs; and developing, reviewing, monitoring, and evaluating contracts for services and/or materials.

Ability to develop and manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously within approved budget; understand and interpret engineering and technical data related to assigned responsibilities; establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers; work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities; and direct, coach, and train others.

Additional Information

Starting annual salary is $79,650. After 5 successful years in the position, the annual salary is $102,575.
The typical workweek is Monday – Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
