State of Ohio Business Resources

Businesses and employees are able to access resources related to COVID-19 at www.coronavirus.ohio.gov/BusinessHelp. This site includes information on unemployment benefits, the Small Business Administration’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, the Liquor Buyback Program, modified rules for trucking, the delay of BWC Premiums, etc.

CARES ACT

On Friday, March 27, 2020, the President signed into law the CARES Act, which contains $376 billion in relief for American workers and small businesses. In addition to traditional SBA funding programs, the CARES Act established several new temporary programs to address the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Economic Injury Disaster Loan Emergency (EIDL) Advance: This loan advance will provide up to $10,000 of economic relief to businesses that are currently experiencing temporary difficulties.
  • Paycheck Protection Program: This loan program provides loan forgiveness for retaining employees by temporarily expanding the traditional SBA 7(a) loan program. 
  • SBA Debt Relief: The SBA is providing a financial reprieve to small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • SBA Express Bridge Loans: Enables small businesses who currently have a business relationship with an SBA Express Lender to access up to $25,000 quickly.

Summit County COVID-19 Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Program

The Summit County COVID-19 Small Business Emergency Relief Grant Program (the “Program”) will provide small business grants of up to $5K for Summit County small businesses that have been economically disadvantaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funds in excess of $1.2 million have been committed to the grant program with a combination of general fund dollars and Community Development Block Grant funds.  Summit County is leading this investment with more than $750,000 committed.  The City of Akron has committed $100,000 and Jump Start in collaboration and partnership with the KeyBank Boost and Build Program (https://boostandbuild.org/) has also committed $100K.  In addition, a number of communities including Barberton, Bath Township, Copley Township, Coventry, Cuyahoga Falls, Fairlawn, Green, Mogadore, Norton, and Tallmadge have also committed funds to the grant program.
