The City of Cuyahoga Falls has partnered with the MedicAlert Foundation to provide the free Law Enforcement Agency Portal program aimed to protect community members with dementia and autism who are at-risk for wandering emergencies.

The MedicAlert Law Enforcement Agency Portal program known as L.E.A.P. has developed specialized services to address wandering emergencies including MedicAlert® + Alzheimer’s Association Safe Return® for individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementia, and MedicAlert Found® for children and adults with autism spectrum and developmental disorders.

Eligible participants receive a medical identification bracelet or pendant and 24/7 emergency support services at no charge. These medical ID's alert emergency personnel to a member’s primary health conditions, medications, or implanted medical devices. In addition to its 24-hour emergency response service, the MedicAlert Foundation provides family and caregiver notification to reunite members with their loved ones.

Statistics show that six in ten adults with Alzheimer’s or related dementia will wander and 50% of individuals with autism spectrum disorders will run off. This service can serve as an important part of the overall safety plan for families with a loved one at-risk of wandering. The charity reports a 98% success rate for locating missing persons when MedicAlert products and services are utilized.
