Mayor Walters is proud to announce a community art installation at City Hall in partnership with Western Reserve Hospital and Summit DD. Through the generosity of Western Reserve Hospital, works that were created by people with disabilities are now on display for community viewing. The artwork is on loan to the city from Summit DD and is currently hung in City Hall along the south hallway near the Tax and Utility Billing Departments. Additional works are on display in a frequently utilized conference room. The community is invited to view the art show during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“We are proud to display art from the talented artists of Summit DD that is breathing new life and color into City Hall,” stated Mayor Walters.

“Our partnership with both Western Reserve Hospital and Summit DD is providing us with an opportunity to make art available for viewing so that our residents and visitors may enjoy public art.”

“We are proud of our partnership with the City of Cuyahoga Falls that has, and continues to allow for the increased recognition of our local art community,” said Dr. Robert Kent, president and CEO, Western Reserve Hospital. “This new display is especially important, as it showcases a collection of work from artists with disabilities throughout Summit County. This is a great way for the public to experience the broad range of talents these individuals possess and we are excited to be able to help the City and the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board celebrate their artistic success.”

“Not only are these types of collaborative events an opportunity to work together and showcase the talent of the artists,” shared Summit DD Superintendent, John Trunk, “they are also a great way to demonstrate how people with disabilities can add to the social fabric of their community. Communities are much stronger when they include people of all abilities,” he added.

Western Reserve Hospital is providing services by art curator Jessica Lofthus to select and hang the art pieces to create cohesive collections. Art work continues to periodically be rotated out of City Hall and replaced with new works so that the community may continue to enjoy art, free of charge.

Summit DD is the community resource that connects more than 4,700 adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families to services and supports in Summit County. It is the Agency’s mission to connect people with disabilities to supports that empower each individual to contribute to their own success and to that of their community.  More information regarding the Agency is available online at SummitDD.org.
