City of Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters is proud to join Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro to help raise funds for The Laura Williams Dunlop Memorial Stand Down for Homeless and Displaced Veterans of Summit County.  The community is encouraged to donate to help provide much needed services for our local Veterans in need.  The donations will benefit the Stand Down event that will be held On September 13, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Firestone VFW Post 3383, 690 Waterloo Road, in Akron.

“Summit County Stand Down provides invaluable services to our local Veterans and this year they need our help in serving the same people who selflessly and courageously served our Country,” stated Mayor Walters.  “This is an opportunity to donate goods or money to provide aid and show support to our local Veterans.”

The Stand Down event is an effort to provide homeless and displaced Veterans with winter months necessities, such as clothing, sleeping bags, gloves, hats, and shoes.  Veterans will also receive medical testing, legal counseling, food cards and Veterans services.  Every year, Summit County Stand Down serves over 400 homeless Veterans in Summit County. Historically, the United States Department of Defense supplied surplus items for Stand Down, but a warehouse fire in New Jersey destroyed $700,000 worth of donations that were to be sent to local agencies such as Stand Down.
