The City of Cuyahoga Falls Reminds Residents and Businesses of April 18 Income Tax Filing Deadline

Mar 31, 2017

The City of Cuyahoga Falls Income Tax Department reminds residents and businesses that the deadline to file 2016 income tax returns is April 18. Taxpayers can access a secure online tax preparation tool and file at

Taxpayers needing additional assistance preparing their individual returns should bring their paperwork to the Income Tax Office between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and city staff will prepare and file the return. Please note, the city will be closed on April 14th in observance of Good Friday. The Income Tax Office is located in the city building, across from Utility Billing, at 2310 2nd Street. Taxpayers are encouraged to come to the office prior to April 18th as wait times could be lengthy.

The City of Cuyahoga Falls has a mandatory filing requirement. If a resident (ages 18 to 65) or business has no income, a tax return must still be filed. Non-residents are also required to file with the city if they own or operate a business, own a rental property, or work in the City of Cuyahoga Falls, and tax is not withheld at all or withheld at less than 2 percent. Tax returns must be received by the Income Tax Division or postmarked by April 18, 2017, to avoid late filing penalties.

Taxpayers that have requested an automatic six-month extension for filing their federal income tax return will automatically receive an extension for the filing of a municipal income tax return. Please attach a copy of the federal extension to the city return when filed. If a taxpayer has not requested or received a six-month extension for filing their federal income tax return, they must submit a written request to the city requesting an extension. An extension to file is not an extension to pay and payment of estimated tax due should be submitted to the city by April 18.

For additional assistance or questions, taxpayers can contact the Income Tax Division at (330) 971-8220.
